BLOG ARCHIVES - PART Seven

The almost daily blog started 01 April 2006.

To Part Six (JULY 2006)

31 August 2006

Well, that's it for August, a fairly quite month of Beaver additions due to other commitments. Only 39, but that still met the one-a-day quota I set myself. September might be lean too, as I have to complete the Calendar and finish my candle holders!!!

My thanks to all who have submitted photos this month. I have quite a stock pile now.

30 August 2006

Received an official portrait of C-FBVR (1548) - another stunning shot by BC photographer Heath Moffatt.

Yet another ex-Indian Beaver rises to perfection. Thanks to Jim Andie for the latest image (with more promised). Welcome to N2400F (958) Now added to the active Beaver list !

27 August 2006

Rain today, made the right call in going to Ottawa yesterday. Here are two snaps to get started, I'll add a web page later.

The purpose of the trip was to ride in C-GBUL (588)

Sound file of C-GBUL departure ;-)

Some of the aerial activities that brought pleasure to the senses.

24 August 2006

Spending some time on the website today. Off to the bench mid afternoon. Overloaded with photos to process at present, so be patient if your submission has not here appeared!

Sometimes the backgrounds are just as interesting as the subject. Here is an example. Behind a new (old) image of Beaver C-FFHX (60) sent by Darren Gareh, taken at Timmins (my guess!), I noticed three Beavers in the background. One just arriving, and two parked. Here are the blow-ups taken from the main image.

21 August 2006

Well, I have my Primary computer back, still have my 2007 Calendar images (phew!!) a new hard drive etc. No time today as I'm busy at the bench. Big sigh of relief though!

20 August 2006

Off to the old studio today to be a hard working silversmith again. Back later today to add an ROC Beaver which was photographed on August 19th by Martin Fenner.

19 August 2006

I will be getting my main computer back on Monday morning. We shall see what's what then.

Our Monarch butterfly hatched this morning, this is one that we brought back as a freshly laid egg from near Quebec City, some 26 days ago. Been intereseting for us and the grankids! Last time we did that was when our middle kid was six!

We are awaiting the first flight.

18 August 2006

Swift action by John Olafson caught C-FBVR (1548) arriving at Kelowna, BC. Thanks John!

17 August 2006

A call from Computer Doctor informs me that is was a Hard Drive failure...so adding a new (bigger) one and hopefully some files rescued..at least the calendar images I'm hoping.

Beautiful shot from Gordon Reid (just off his 15 hour flight LAX-MEL) of C-FDIC (1238) at Oshkosh. Certainly my idea of a more tranquil location! She looks much better than the time I saw her in a yard in Thunder Bay, Ontario.

14 August 2007

Well, I'm back...but one engine feathered, and things a wee bit squirrely up here in the cab! It seems I have managed to transfer a copy of the website to my No:2 computer from my server, and also managed to install my editing software on the same. Now, all I need is some time to add a Beaver. I'll attempt one tonight. Wish me luck.

A wing and a prayer, eh?

11 August 2006

A busy few days for me as a silversmith, but my project is now well underway and means some evening work at my old studio.

Quite a few "new" Beavers arriving. Just completed c/n 1521 will be online later today, also I just added N1018P (1133) which has not been featured before. A super shot of c/n 526 on the step will also be added, with a banner shot next week.

I had a long telephone chat last night with Paul Cabot of the Toronto Aerospace Museum and he was advising me that plans for the 60th Anniversary DHC-2 Celebration at Downsview in late May 2007, are coming together. More details on those soon.

07 August 2006

A new week begins here tomorrow. I have to complete a commission wearing my "silversmith hat" this month, so Beavers will take second priority. Still hope to keep you all entertained however with your daily Beaver.!

06 August 2006

Beautiful day here again, so off out to enjoy it with Danie (play tourists and entertain visitors). Spent last few hours correcting errors/bad links pointed out by my "checkers"..thanks lads. Will add our daily Beaver before I leave.

02 August 2006

Lots of e-mails to and from Wayne Mutza. You can expect many Viet-Nam era images shortly. These include six new! airframes to add to the historical index - thanks Wayne. I also scanned 26 slides from Karl Hayes of Dublin, taken on his recent trip in Canada and US. Karl produced the most incredible CD (BOOK) on the de Havilland DHC-3 Otter. He is the World's expert on the subject.

01 August 2006

Rather hot here in Kingston, so taking it easy. I'm enjoying looking at the snow covered mountains of Alaska shown above in our "banner"!!

The "photo counters squad" now includes Brian Stockall, so I can now say that the volunteer position has been filled.

News also that C-FBVR (1548) made her first fight recently, and I will add a few images tomorrow.

I also received Larry Milberry's latest book yesterday, dedicated to the superb Propliner photographs of Wilf White. Superb. I have been soaked in nostalgia as well as sweat!
