USAF History

51-16527 was made available on 01-Jul-1952 and accepted on 04-Jul-1952 by the 6600th Air Depot AMO (Air Material Overseas Unit), at Downsview, Ontario after which it was delivered to the Tactical Air Command at Donaldson AFB, Greenville, SC where it was assigned to the 64th Troop Carrier (Medium) Group on 16-Jul-1952 until re allocated on 15-Dec-1952 to the 4th Liaison Squadron,

In preparation for transportation to Europe it was assigned to the Air Material Command and the 2847th Transportation Control Depot (TPC) Wing at Newark NJ from 14-Dec-1952. It arrived in Germany at Neubiberg and was assigned to Air Force Europe from 23-Jan 1953 being initially allocated to the 86th Fighter Bomber Wing at Neubiberg remaining until 18-Feb-1953. It was then allocated to the 85th Air Depot at Erding until 18-Mar-1953 after which it moved to the 4th Liaison Squadron at Furstenfeldbeck until 01-Feb-1954.

The next transfer was to Landstuhl with the 7130th Headquarters Squadron. This allocation lasted only for a month until 01-Mar-1954. The next allocation according to the aircraft’s record card shows as the 1130rd SPA Group attached to Headquarters Command based at Rome Italy. The dates were between 01-Mar-1954 and 12-Aug-1954 but it has not been possible to confirm the meaning of the acronym. After this “diversion” it was back to Landstuhl in Germany and the 7030rd Headquarters Group until 15-Oct-1954 after which, staying at Landstuhl it was allocated to the 7030th Support Group until 01-Nov-1954 and then onto the 86th Fighter Interceptor Wing until 08-Feb-1955.

A four month attachment to the 21st Fighter Bomber Wing at Chambley- Bessières in north east France was its next location between 08-Feb-1955 and 22-Jun-1955 after which it returned again to Landstuhl and the 86th FI Wing, remaining here until 01-Sep-1956. The Fighter Day Wing at Bitburg, Germany was the next port of call until 11-Sep-1956 when it was assigned to the Air Material Command for a visit to the Aermacchi facility at Vergiate in Northern Italy shown between 14-Jun and 10-Sep-1956. The record card indicates an accident (crash) on 14-Apr-1958 but no other evidence has currently been found.

The aircrafts remaining USAF history to be researched.
