USAF History

51-16570 was made available on 06-Oct-1952 and accepted on 16-Oct-1952 by the 6600th Air Depot AMO (Air Material Overseas Unit), at Downsview, ON.,after which it was delivered to the Tactical Air Command at Donaldson AFB., NY.,  and joined the 7th Liaison Squadron on 23-Oct-1952 staying until 03-Feb-1953. It transferred to the 6th Liaison Squadron during a short deployment at Griffiss AFB., NY., which lasted up to 13-Mar-1953. It then returned to Donaldson until 22-Jun-1953 when it deployed to Lawson AFB., GA., with the 7th Liaison Squadron until 18-Jul-1953 after which it was back to Donaldson and there remained until 30-Mar-1954.

A re-assignment saw it move to the Air Defence Command, initially to Great Falls AFB., MT., where it was attached to the 29th Air Division a SAGE unit under Control of the Central Air Defence Force where it stayed until 09-Feb-1955 when it was sent to the DHC factory at Downsview, ON., for maintenance remaining until 12-Apr-1954. It returned to the 29th at Great Falls and remained at the base until 09-Mar-1959. In the meantime the location had been renamed Malmstrom AFB., on 01-Oct-1955.

Another session of maintenance saw it going to Minneapolis-St Paul, MN., and to the Northern Aircraft Facility between 09-Mar-1959 and 11-Jun-1959 after which it returned to its service unit at Malmstrom. It stayed with the 29th until 01-Feb-1961 when, staying at Malmstrom it passed over to the 4642nd Support Squadron. But only until the 17th-Feb as it then took a long trip to Thule, Greenland the USAF’s most northern location where it was attached to the 4683rd Air Defence Wing, under the control of the 29th Air Defence Force.

Its USAF history from this point is still to be researched.
