Accident: Upper Char Lake, NT. Lat 62.52N, Long 92.11W 29-Jul-1981. The pilot reported that he was departing from a small northern lake on a whale survey flight. Although the wind was northerly and gusting to 28 kts the pilot, because take-off to the east afforded a longer distance, attempted a crosswind take-off. He apparently lifted off prematurely, began drifting to the right and touched down again as he reached the end of the lake. The aircraft progressed across the tundra on the left float until reaching another small lake. The pilot attempted a turn into wind to prevent running onto the opposite shore, however the right float hit a rock and the aircraft rolled over and came to rest inverted. Damage suffered included scraped wing-tip, cowling and float. No personal injury was recorded. A81C0084.

Accident: 6 nm N of Pickle Lake, ON. 02-Oct-1999. Whilst operating for North Star Air fuel starvation caused pilot to force land on a small river. Left wing tip struck trees which made aircraft yaw into riverbank where floats and struts detached. Right wing and elevator also damaged in further collision with trees. Pilot and passenger uninjured and rescued after two hours.
