Accident: Nr Port Alsworth, AK, 18-Dec-1982. Whilst landing at 3,500 ft. on the Tuxendi Glacier, aircraft skis sank into soft snow and flipped onto back. Pilot and four passengers received minor or no injury. Aircraft substantially damaged. ANC83LA024

Accident: 18-Oct-1998 70ml E of Chitina, AK. On takeoff from lodge strip, as the aircraft was approximately 50 ft. above the ground the engine stopped. The pilot was able to land ahead on a gravel bar and nosed into a river. There was evidence of contaminated fuel in the carburettor which remained above water following the landing. Pilot and five passengers uninjured. ANC99LA007.

Service Difficulty report. 21-Dec-2004. Air data computer (adc) installed as part of the Chelton Flight Systems reporting 500' altitude error. During the subsequent inspection, found the air data computer (adc) broke loose from its mount. Upon further investigation found the mounting bracket flange cracked completely off the airframe structure it was riveted to. After removal of the bracket, and further inspection, it is believed that the flange was not manufactured with the proper radiuses in the cut-out for the thumbnail screw causing it to crack. Vibration from general aircraft operation contributed to the issue. This adc was installed as part of the chelton flight systems stc#sa02203ak efis-sv system in June of 2004.

USAF History

51-16485 was made available to the Toronto AMO (Air Material Overseas) unit of the USAF on 04-Apr-1952, accepted on 22-Apr-1952 and initially delivered on 30-Apr-1952 to the Air Material Command and the San Bernardino maintenance facility at Norton Air Force Base. Here it remained between 22-Apr-1952 and 03-Jun-1952 after which it was re assigned to the Far East Air Forces Command and transported to Japan and the Kisarazu Air Force Base. It was allocated to the 6400^th Air Depot until 16-Jul-1952 and then the 6408^th Maintenance Unit for preparation prior to an onward move to Sth Korea and Yong Dong Po Air Force Base for the 10^th Liaison Squadron on the 22-Jul-1952 until 01-Feb-1953.. The unit subsequently moved to Osan ni and the aircraft remained there until 07-Jul-1954

It returned to Japan and to the 6400^th Air Depot which was now at Showa between 07- Jul-1954 and 16-Sep 1954 and then back to Korea and Osan (the ni having been dropped). It was initially assigned to the 6171^st Air Base Wing until 15-Mar-1955 and staying at the same location with the 58^th Fighter Bomber Wing until 08-Nov-1958. Its next allocation was still at Osan with the 6314^th Air Base Group and spent rotations at Taegu, Seoul and Kimpo. The unit was re designated as the 6314^th Support Wing on 20-Jul-1961. Our current history takes us up to Dec-1963.
