USAF History

51-16504 was made available on 23-May-1952 and accepted on 06-Jun-1952 by the 6600th Air Depot AMO (Air Material Overseas Unit), at Downsview, Ontario after which it was assigned to the Tactical Air Command. It was delivered to Biggs AFB, El Paso, Texas and joined the 1st Liaison Squadron on 18-Jun-1952 remaining until 01-Dec-1952 when it moved to 3rd Liaison Squadron at George AFB, Victorville, CA. It was then re-assigned to the Air Material Command and went to the Sacramento Air Material Area, at McLellan AFB, California on 08-Jan-1953 and on to Burbank, San Francisco, California on 22-Jan-1953 prior to embarkation to Japan and being assigned to the Far East Air Force.

Arriving in Japan on 29-Jan-1953 it was initially at the 6408th Maintenance and Supply unit at Kisarazu where it appears to have been stored until 01-Apr-1954 before joining the 3rd Liaison Squadron at Komaki. Like the other Beavers in Japan it went to Showa and the 6400th Air Depot for Maintenance, this one on the 29-Apr-1954. It returned to the 3rd Liaison Squadron on 16-Jun-1954 transferring across to the 6101st Air Base Wing on an unknown date prior to 12-Mar-1957 when it moved to Showa again and the Northern Material Area, Pacific Depot for maintenance where it remained for almost three months until 06-Jun-1957.

It then returned to Komaki and the 6101st Air Base Wing until 25-Jun-1957 and after that passed to Johnson AFB and 6000th Support Wing until 01-Jul-1957. There followed a move to western Tokyo and the Tachikawa AFB to join the 374th Troop Carrier Group, later Wing, on 26-Jul-1957 remaining until 03-Mar-1958. A return to Johnson and the 6041th Air Base Group followed where it operated until a move to Korea on 29-Jan-1959.

The aircraft’s record shows it being deployed through various locations with the 6314th Air Base Group. These included Kunsan, Kimpo and Taegu. The unit also underwent re designations to the 6314th Air Base Wing in Oct-1960 and then Support Wing in July 1961. The record also shows a short period with the 6314th Advisory Group at Seoul between Apr-1959 and Sep-1959. The last note currently held is of a stay at Taegu and Logistics Command unit operated by Fairchild from 26-May 1964. The further history is to be researched.
