Accident: Knight Inlet, BC. 13-Apr-1981. The pilot and one passenger were departing from a river near a logging camp. Rather than taxi down-river to the normal take-off area, the pilot elected to use a 400 yd straight stretch of river between the dock and the normal take-off area. As the aircraft was lightly loaded, and the wind was more aligned with the chosen area, he anticipated no problem. Shortly after lift-off, it was apparent that the aircraft would not clear the obstruction ahead, and the pilot attempted to turn right to follow the river. During the turn, the left float struck a building on the shore. The pilot managed to maintain flight near the stall until the aircraft struck the opposite shore. The aircraft then spun around before stopping. Aircraft suffered scraped wingtip, cowling and float. No personal injuries reported.
