USAF History

51-16550 was made available on 25-Aug-1952 and accepted on 26-Aug-1952 by the 6600th Air Depot AMO (Air Material Overseas Unit), at Downsview, Ontario after which it was delivered to the Tactical Air Command at Sewart AFB, TN., where it was allocated to the 314th Troop Carrier Wing, Medium on 04-Sep-1952 where it remained for just ten days. This attachment lasted until 14-Sep-1952 when it moved across the base to join the 5th Liaison Squadron remaining until 04-Mar-1953 but returning to the 314th for two weeks until 19-Mar-1953. The aircraft then moved to Greenville / Donaldson AFB., SC., and the 7th Liaison Squadron until 26-Jun-1953 after which it spent time until 17-Dec-1953 at Andrews AFB with the Military Air Transport Command and 1401st Air Base Wing. It returned to its previous unit until 22-May-1954 after which it passed to Charleston and the 456th Troop Carrier Wing – Medium until 27-Jun- 1954. A period at Warner Robins AFB., and the Air Material Command unit for maintenance lasted until 09-Aug-1954 after which it returned to Charleston until 19-Apr-1955.

A change of assignment now took it to the Air Training Command and to Francis E. Warren AFB., WY., where it was attached to the Technical Training Wing until 06-Oct-1955 and after that to Luke AFB., AZ., and the 3600th Combat Crew Training (CCT) Wing later re designated 4510th CCT Wing when the base came under the control of the Tactical Air Command remaining until 21-Apr-1960.

One again a change of assignment occurred and the aircraft moved to Wright Patterson AFB., OH., joining the 2750th Air Base Wing until 24-Oct-1960. It was next found at the Logistics Command base at Hagerstown, MD., operated by the Fairchild Aircraft Co., but as such its further history is still to be researched.
