USAF History

51-16495 was made available on 05-May-1952, accepted by the by AMO 6600th Air Depot (Air Material Overseas Unit), at Downsview, Ontario, on the same day and remained until 11-Jun-1952 after which it was assigned to the Northeast Air Force. It was delivered to Goose Bay AFB Labrador and joined the 6603th Air Base Wing on 11.Jun-1952 remaining only a couple of weeks as it moved to Ernest Harmon AFB, Stephenville, Newfoundland and the 6602nd Air Base Wing on the 26-May-1952, a deployment that lasted until 30-Nov-1952 before returning to Goose Bay and its previous unit. The aircraft was destined to return to Harmon on the 31-Jan-1953 and then a change in the routine with a move to Sonderstromfjord in Greenland to be with the 6621st Air Base Squadron for an extended period until 07-Sep-1956. There was a three day stop over with the 6615th Air Transport, Medium, Squadron before returning to its birthplace at Toronto, Canada and the DACTC for a couple of months of maintenance until 21-Nov-1956.

A return then ensued to its former unit in Greenland on 01-Apr-1957 which was re designated 4084th Air Base Group as the Air Base was re assigned to the Strategic Air Command. It remained until 30-Jul-1979. There was then a period at Goose Bay with the 4082th Air Base Group which became the 4082nd Combat Support Group on 1-Oct-1959 and then 4082nd Strategic Wing on 02-Mar-1960. It remained at Goose Bay until 19-Sep-1960.  Ernest Harmon and the 4081st Combat Support Group called next and the aircraft spent a few weeks there until 28-Oct-1960 before returning to the 4082nd Strategic Wing at Goose Bay until 25-Jan-1964.

Its final location with the USAF was at Davis Monthan and the 2704th Air Storage Depot Group from 25-Jan-1964 from where it departed on 27-Oct-1964 when it passed to the civil register and the Department of the Interior with Civil registration N763.
